Nicaragua,
I truly never envisioned spending a summer here. Or even spending an extended amount of time with you. Yet, 2 1/2 months later, I am having a hard time saying goodbye.
I have always been terrible at goodbyes. Never once have I liked them. (Except for that one time they knocked the OLD McDonald’s down near our previous house. That was a goodbye and good riddance.)
Goodbye sounds so final.
But here we are, on round 2086 of goodbyes this year. You would think I had this down by now.
To the people of Nicaragua
Thank you.
If I could explain in words how much you mean to me, that would require a greater vocabulary than I possess.
You have taught me to love without boundary.
You have shown me the value of a simple smile and hug.

Although I may not miss your bus system…

Or the heat…

I will miss you so much.

Thank you for loving me without question. Showing abundant patience with my Spanish, as well as accepting me and welcoming me into your world.

I could say so much more. For now my friends, simply thank you and “Dios te bendiga”
I hope to see you again.
Adios.
(Because that seems less concrete.)
Sincerely,
prof. Marta
