“Feed Nicaragua”

I have always been someone who loves to put a face to a name.

When you hear a name, you know of someone. When you meet someone, you now know them.

It is so much more personal. You know?

When I hear of natural disasters, children missing, or countries in turmoil. It is easy to have compassion and feel heartache for them. But sometimes I forget.

I know of them.

I don’t know them.

Somehow when you know someone it makes all the difference.

About two weeks ago, Pedro (a Harvest Initiative worker) took the other interns and me on food distribution. Harvest Initiative partners with the Nice foundation to “Feed Nicaragua.”  Twice a month Pedro distributes the food given by the Nice foundation to various areas in Nicaragua.

100 boxes were given out in six different locations.

Each box had about 36 meals packed in it. (THAT is a LOT of food people.)

Harvest Initiative intentionally drops the boxes with community leaders. In most cases, it is churches or schools who have contact with struggling families. These schools or churches will feed children at least one meal a day from these boxes.

Numbers of children being fed varied with each location. Yet, each one feeds at least 20 children or more!

As the day wore on, those news stories and statistics of hungry children became faces with names. Some even instant friends.

Providing these churches and schools with meals not only meets physical needs but opens up the opportunity to meet the kid’s spiritual needs.

It opens up opportunities to talk about Jesus. 🙂

I loved every moment of this day.

This ministry is so so willing to encourage others in their hard work for the kingdom. That is my favorite part.

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Sincerely,

your Nicaraguan intern with weak arms
